Garlic Shows Promise for PCOS Symptoms

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can cause weight gain, acne, irregular periods, and hormonal imbalance. But recent research shows garlic may help address many of these concerns—naturally.

In a 2025 double-blind study, women with PCOS and metabolic syndrome took 500mg of standardized garlic extract (2–3mg allicin) twice daily for 8 weeks. Compared to placebo, the garlic group experienced greater improvements in weight, waist and hip measurements, blood pressure, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, and blood sugar.

Garlic also helped regulate hormones by increasing Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG), which plays a key role in balancing reproductive hormones. Women also reported fewer PCOS-related symptoms—such as acne, hair growth, menstrual issues, and emotional distress. Sexual health also improved significantly across all measures.

Take-Home:
If you’re dealing with PCOS, a garlic supplement may support metabolic health, hormone balance, and symptom relief. Look for a product standardized for allicin content and speak with your healthcare provider before use.
