Ashwagandha has earned a reputation as one of the most versatile herbs in natural medicine—and new research confirms it’s also safe for long-term use.
A year-long study followed 94 men and 97 women (average age 40.7) who took 600mg of a standardized ashwagandha root extract daily. Over the full year, no serious adverse events occurred. Mild effects such as nausea or headache were rare and resolved on their own.
Importantly, there were no negative effects on liver, kidney, or thyroid function. Testosterone levels increased, while quality of life and mental health scores improved significantly.
Ashwagandha has already been studied for stress, anxiety, sleep, cognition, sexual health, fertility, muscle strength, and more. This study strengthens confidence in its safety.
