Probiotics & Prebiotics Ease Gas, Bloating, and Constipation

Gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort affect most adults—even those without digestive disorders like IBS. A new large study shows that targeted probiotics combined with a prebiotic can help.

Healthy adults with bloating or indigestion took either a placebo or 53.6 billion AFU of a multi-strain probiotic plus 400mg of pomegranate extract daily for 6 weeks. Pomegranate acts as a polyphenol-based prebiotic, helping beneficial bacteria thrive.

The supplement group experienced greater improvements in bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, and digestive quality of life. Over 73% had no belly swelling, and more people enjoyed food rather than avoiding it. Constipation and bowel regularity also improved significantly.

The supplement was as safe as placebo, with no serious adverse events.

Take-Home:
A combination of probiotics and prebiotics may safely reduce bloating, gas, discomfort, and constipation—even if you don’t have IBS.
